* 28.01.1928 † 09.12.2019
Before Professor Dr.-Ing. Horst-Henning Gerlach was appointed to the Chair of Factory Organization, including the former Department of Production Control at the former University of Dortmund, in December 1972, he had already completed several positions in science and business: Prof. Gerlach began his studies in mechanical engineering at the State Engineering School in Dortmund in 1949 and then continued at the Technical University of Hanover. He completed his doctorate there in 1961 and then worked for DEMAG AG in Duisburg for more than ten years. When he moved to the University of Dortmund, he was appointed Scientific Advisor and Professor.
Prof. Gerlach can look back on a large number of publications. He was also involved in the university's committees: Prof. Gerlach was a member of the Faculty Council for 20 years, Dean for two terms and Vice Dean of his department for a further three terms. Outside of the university, he was also a trustee of the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics.
The Technical University of Dortmund, the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Chair of Enterprise Logistics (LFO) have lost a highly esteemed colleague in Prof. Horst-Henning Gerlach. We will honor his memory.
Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family.
